Maybe you've heard about this already but... a group of girls in PA are calling for a girl-cott against Abercrombie and Fitch for their t-shirts that degrade and objectify women. They were on the Today Show, Fox's Hannity and Combes, and featured in an article in the Chicago Tribune already. Now people are blogging about them and joining the fight.
We as women, who have long sought to be placed on a more equal footing with guys don't need shirts that have 'who needs brains when you have these?' emblazoned across the chest. We need to stand up and tell Abercrombie and Fitch we will not buy your clothes when they are made only to objectify us!
Check back here for more details on the girl-cott.

So many girls have created a sort of double standard for themselves. They complain about being treated like objects, they complain about rape, abuse, etc., etc., etc. and yet they wear clothing like this, which just further objectifies them. DUH. Don't ASK to be treated like a sex object, girls! i really admire what the girls from PA are doing. Although some people may just say "oh, the shirts are simply trying to be funny", I don't think that that sort of thing helps women's lives at all. Come on...get smart

I think this is a great idea and if those girls from pa get enough support from outside sources this girlcott could really have an impact. Think of the possibilities.
I can't believe how many people are picking up on this. It is amazing. Let's go girls. Let's make this girlcott happen!
This is the e-mail the girls are sending around to promote this girlcott. Copy and paste it into an e-mail and send it along today!

JOIN US in a GIRLCOTT of Abercrombie & Fitch.
Why you ask? Because lately their attitude tees have a bit TOO much anti-girl attitude for our tastes.
Here are some lines from recent A&F tees...
"With These Who Needs Brains..."
"I hope you can make more then I can spend..."
"Last night I had a nightmare I was a brunette.."
We would never let anyone exploit us, so why are we exploiting ourselves? They’ll stop making these t-shirts if we stop buying them.
We, as young women and girls, do not need to create extra division and competition between our ranks. By girlcotting these shirts, we not only create unity for a single project or battle, we create unity within the female community as a whole,
As girls, we can spend our dollars on more empowering, less racist and less sexist street ware.
So join us in our national girlcott effort to encourage A&F to stop selling these rags and instead start selling some more girl empowering wear.
This girlcott is being launched by an independent group of girls - The Allegheny County Girls as Grantmakers group - a diverse group of 23 girls from across the county. We represent different schools, neighborhoods, ethnic groups, religions, races, sexual orientation, athletic and academic interests - you name it - but what we have in common is an interest in making our world a better place for girls to grow and thrive.
Won't you join us?
We are asking girls throughout the country to do 3 things:
1) Stop shopping at A&F till they stop selling these tees and formally apologize to all of us for selling them in the first place.
2) Email a letter saying that you will be doing #1 to the A&F "Investor Relations" headquarters. Their email address is: investor_relations@abercrombie.com
3) Spread the word to other groovy girls you know.
You can also host your own press conference, contact your local media, write letters to your local press, etc…
It's as easy as that.
Signed,
The Allegheny County Girls as Grantmakers
The Fashion Forum crew had a long discussion about this over the weekend and we decided on a position we are going to take as an organization...
We support being active in the industry, it is part of our mission statement. But we also want to be positive and offer constructive criticism. Because of this we support e-mailing Abercrombie and Fitch to voice your concerns about the t-shirts and the messages they send. We also suggest stopping in a local A&F store and talking to a sales associate or manager about your concerns.
T-shirts are only a small portion of what A&F sells and because of that we feel a full boycott is unnecessary. Fighting t-shirts that have demeaning messages will be more worthwhile.
